Vintage Swing Night- Series Classes

For the budding swing enthusiast...

Lindy Town offers weekly series classes in vintage swing on Thursday nights.

Vintage Swing Night for non-dancers and beginning dancers where learning is easy and fun.

Learning to dance can be intimidating.  At Vintage Swing Night, we design our classes so everyone can develop skills. Every session we start with basic step and spend an entire month to fancy it up.  In the month we also break down the three main components of Swing dancing: the rhythm, the shapes, partnering.  Each task is broken into bite size pieces that gets linked together with lots of time to practice the individual .

Vintage Swing Night provides a varied schedule to cover many styles of the vintage swing dances.  So check back often to see the updated schedule or join the mailing list to be updated on everything happening in Lindy Town.

OUR EXPECTATION:
Learn Lindy Hop at your own pace.
Feel comfortable with a basic form by the end of the class.
Have tools to enjoy social dancing with basic steps.

SWING CLASS DESIGN:
This class is designed for absolute beginners.

First Friday Swing- Crash Course

For the swing curious...

Lindy Town offers monthly dance on First Friday of every month. First Friday Swing for both listeners and dancers of all levels.

Before the dance we provide a crash course dance lesson where we focus on easy,  fun, quick-to-learn dance moves and showing how fun Swing dancing can be. Learning to dance can be intimidating.  This class is not meant to yield perfection, just a taste of what you can do.  At First Friday Swing, we design our classes so everyone can execute the basic step and a couple of complimentary or variations. Every Crash Course we start with basic step that is pared down to the essentials.  Then we move on to the complimentary or variations so you can enjoy an evening of music, live swinging jazz or recorded, with these steps we provided.

Each step is broken into bite size pieces that gets linked together. There is time to practice but we encourage the cannon ball method of jumping in and getting wet with these fun and easy steps.  Once comfortable head over to series class for more detailed information.

First Friday Swing provides a varied schedule to cover many styles of the vintage swing dances.  So keep coming back to First Friday Swing to increase your dance vocabulary. Don't forget to join the mailing list to be updated on all the fun things happening in Lindy Town.

Workshops

For getting started or diving in deeper

Workshops are essentially times of intensive study that are not part of the regular curriculum.  Each workshop will have different designs based on purpose.  In general they are much like a drop-in style class, where the attendees could be of varying levels and there is no expectation of advancing onto the next level class.

Bootcamps are hyper-focused on a particular topic and is meant to give you a higher degree of competency upon it's completion.

Other workshops can be intended to give you a big topic with the intention of you leaving the workshop with a new perspective and new skills to practice not mastery.  Some workshops have a specific topic where a variety of exercises are given to acquire the new skill.

Another format of a workshop is a camp where a variety of teachers on hand to instruct.  This is another great opportunity to get to know a teacher's ideology, teaching style, and in-depth knowledge of the course material.

WORKSHOP INSTRUCTORS:

They can be taught by your local instructor to add on knowledge that you cannot necessarily impart in the series class schedule or structure.  They can taught by a visiting instructor because that instructor has a unique skill or perspective that students should be educated in.

Lindy Town regularly offers:

  • Special Topics: One-hour workshop ahead of First Friday Swing in a variety of specialized topics.

  • Technical Classes: Two-hour workshops to advanced the level of learning on particular topics.

  • Bootcamps: one & two-hour workshops designed to speed up your assimilation of a dance.
